Vevor Collapsible Wagon: An Unexpected Photography Accessory
Honestly, if you're a photographer who does a lot of on-location work, you've probably had that moment. The one where you're lugging 10-15kg of gear across a park, or from the car park to a specific spot on the beach, and you start questioning your life choices.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my Nanuk 935 hard case (review here). It has completely changed how I organise and transport my gear to a shoot. Everything lives in there permanently, safe and sound, and I can just grab it and go, knowing I'm covered for almost any situation. But there was still one problem - what if I need to bring more than just my camera equipment? For example, I have an upcoming shoot for Jamala Wildlife Lodge which will require not only my full camera kit, but also multiple lights, light stands, a tripod, big light modifiers...you get the picture.
This led me down a rabbit hole of looking for a better solution, and I stumbled upon these collapsible wagons that seem to be popular with campers and families going to the beach (and also, I saw the wedding photographer we used for our wedding using one in one of his Instagram stories recently). I figured, if it can handle kids and camping gear, surely it can handle my camera equipment. After a bit of research, I pulled the trigger on the Vevor Collapsible Folding Wagon.
First Impressions
The wagon arrived in a surprisingly compact box. Setting it up for the first time was incredibly straightforward β you just unfold the frame and it pops into shape. My first thought was how sturdy the frame felt and how thick the fabric material was. The wheels are the main event here; they're chunky, wide, and definitely look like they can handle more than just a concrete footpath.
When folded down, it's still a decent size but fits easily in the boot of my car alongside my other gear, which was a must-have for me.
How do I plan to use this on a shoot?
It' will essentially become my mobile base camp. I can wheel everything to the perfect spot in one trip, and it will act as a little workstation where I can easily access all my gear without having to put my bags on the wet grass or dirt. I no longer feel like I'm doing unnecessary damage to my back just getting my equipment from A to B.
My workflow now is to just wheel my Nanuk 935 case out to the car, pop it into the Vevor wagon, and then add any extras like light stands, my tripod, and my Wandrd PRVKE Lite backpack (review here) if I need it.
What I love about this wagon
Massive time and energy saver: Being able to move everything in one single trip is incredible. It means less fatigue and more energy to focus on being creative during the shoot.
The wheels: They are genuinely fantastic. They glide over terrain that would have been a nightmare for my hard case's wheels.
Huge capacity: This thing fits my Nanuk 935 case, two light stands, a tripod, a backpack, and there's still room to spare. The 150L capacity is no joke.
Folds down easily: When the shoot is over, it packs down in under a minute and is ready to be thrown back in the car.
Handy extras: The two drink holders at the front are such a simple but welcomed addition, especially on long, hot shoot days.
Any negatives?
I wouldn't even call them 'dislikes', more just things to be aware of. It's obviously not going to handle a big flight of stairs, so you still need to be mindful of accessibility at your locations.
Would I recommend it?
Absolutely, 100%! If you're a photographer, videographer, or any creative who has to haul a bunch of gear to on-location jobs, this is one of the best value-for-money purchases you can make for your business and your body. It will make my shoots so much less stressful and physically demanding. Itβs a simple piece of kit, but has a massive potential for a positive impact on my workflow.
